ESCANABA — Ladies, start your fair activities!

The Ladies Day program at the 2017 Upper Peninsula State Fair is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in the Activities Tent at the fairgrounds in Escanaba. Doors will open at 9 a.m.

Admission to the event is included with the cost of admission to the fair.

Linda Peters is the Theme Day Coordinator of the Big Top this year, and works hand in hand with the Delta County Commerce Center, which contracts with the U.P. State Fair Authority to operate the fair and its facilities.

“We are enthusiastic that Elmer’s County Market is sponsoring the event this year. Although Ladies Day 2017 will feature popular items from the past, like cook books, demonstrations, special guests, quilt and cooking contests – we are ever changing to fit the needs of the participants and continue to entertain them,” Peters said.

2017’s commodity for the cooking contest is ‘potato’ — the theme for the quilt block contest is ‘vegetables.’ Organizers noted they look forward to seeing what the contributors have in store for this year’s challenge.

Free grandstand entertainment for Friday night is The Prince Experience, playing all of the greatest hits from the Purple One himself. Wear something purple and come party like it’s 1999.
