“Membership Matters” for AAUW

ESCANABA — The American Association of University Women (UUAW) members and guests will gather at Leigh’s Garden Winery, 904 Ludington Street in Escanaba, for a “Membership Matters” evening on Tuesday, April 25. The event begins at 7 p.m. with wine-tasting and hors d’oeuvres.

A short video highlighting the AAUW mission will be shown. Members will present information on a variety of topics including: public policy by Susan Hampton, scholarships by Bev Ladin and JoAnn Clark, Homes for the Holidays by Kathleen Bennett and Judy Fouts, membership by Sharon Gray, and Start Smart Project by Molly Campbell. Deb Trombly and Laura LaPine will address the group on how AAUW has positively impacted them.

The cost for the evening is $6 for members with no charge for guests. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (906)474-6545 no later than April 21.

Established in 1881, AAUW is a nationally recognized organization that promotes gender equity for women and girls. The Escanaba area branch was granted its charter in 1973. It sponsors two scholarships at Bay College and has provided over $25,000 in scholarship funds for women returning to school. It is open to men and women holding an associate’s degree or higher, including an RN degree, AAUW promotes diversity and life-long learning.
