ESCANABA — Philip Strom has been selected as Elks Law Enforcement of the Year for 2016-17.

A native of Escanaba, Strom graduated from Western Michigan University where he studied political science. In 2009, he earned his juris doctorate degree from Thomas Cooley Law School.

Strom has been an attorney in the Delta County Prosecutor’s office since 2011 and in 2015 was appointed as Delta County Prosecutor and continues to serve the position today.

Since joining the prosecutor’s office, he has been specifically focused on victim’s rights and controlled substance issues.

As prosecuting attorney, Strom helps coordinate criminal investigations and litigation by local law enforcement agencies. These agencies are made up of over 100 officers that are on the front lines of community safety and each criminal investigation. Phil has been dedicated to holding criminals responsible through due process in court proceedings for crimes committed in Delta County and has been able to obtain successful trial verdicts in cases ranging from drugged driving, criminal sexual conduct and 1st degree murder.

In addition to criminal prosecutions, Strom and his staff help keep children safe by providing legal representation in cases involving child abuse and neglect.

On top of all of his other achievements, Strom has improved victim services by obtaining grants to help fund new and innovative services for victims. Most recently, Strom formed a task force to address substance abuse in Delta County and has been a key contributor to programs like the Escanaba Public Safety’s Angel Program and Delta County Drug Court.

Phil also provides and facilitates training for local law enforcement officers.

The Strom family has been providing legal services to Delta County for four generations as Phil’s great-grandfather, Torbal Strom, was Past Exalted Ruler of the Escanaba Elks Lodge and was also the prosecuting attorney for Delta County. Phil also serves as a trustee for Bay College.

Strom is also very active within other various community groups such as the Escanaba Lion’s Club, Upper Edge and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area. Strom and his lovely wife, Audra, reside in Escanaba with their daughter Finley.
