Esky Elks to hold

“Big Raffle” March 11

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks will be holding its “Big Raffle” on March 11. This event is open to the public and only 500 tickets will be sold. Contact the Elks at 786-2294 or any Elk member to purchase tickets.

Women of Steel hold

community baby shower

ESCANABA — The United Steel Workers Local 2-21 Women of Steel will be hosting a baby shower to help local mothers in need. All gifts on the day of the event will be donated to the Pregnancy Services of the Delta County. The Women of Steel invite anyone from the community who would like to attend the event and donate to the cause. The baby shower will be held on Saturday, March 11 at the USW Hall, 1201 Sheridan Road, Escanaba beginning at 1 p.m. Bring a dish to pass. The Pregnancy Center of Delta County is in need of baby shampoo or body wash, newborn outfits, sleepers, diapers, wipes, cribs, highchairs, strollers, car seats, crib sheets, and/or material for sewing quilts or making blankets. Rapid Readers meet

ESCANABA — Sing in Spring Karaoke on Friday, March 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Retro Station, 1837 3rd Ave. N., Escanaba. The cost is $3 per person. Proceeds to this event go to the Friends of DATA. Bring extra money if you would like to purchase items from the concession stand.

Parkinson support group

KINGSFORD — The Parkinson Society of Dickinson County Area, a support group for people with Parkinson’s Disease patients, caregivers, family and friends, will hold the next meeting on Thursday, March 9 at the First Presbyterian Church, 395 Hamilton Ave., Kingsford. The social time and gathering will begin at 10 a.m., which will include time to sign-in, get a name tag, have some coffee, and meet and greet each other. The meeting will begin with exercises and agenda items. On the agenda are Parkinson Alliance Survey discussion, the symposium to be held on Sept. 22, and any other items of interest to the group. The meeting this month will be chaired by Koni Lindholm, Claire Kennedy, and Nancy Lakari.

Following the meeting, the program will be presented by Dr. Alexis Whaley, speaking on the topic of Sleep Disorders in Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Whaley is board certified in sleep disorders and is employed at DCHS and U.P. Sleep Center. A light lunch will be available after the program, compliments of Dr. Whaley.

Smelt fry on April 7

FAITHORN — The Faithorn Township Volunteer Fire Department will holds its 55th annual smelt fry on Friday, April 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Faithorn Township Hall. Cod and pasta with meat sauce will also be available. Cost is $12 for adults, and $6 for children. All proceeds go to fund the operation of the Volunteer Fire Department.
