RSVP advisory council

meeting on Feb. 23

ESCANABA — The Delta County Advisory Council of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will hold its meeting on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Community Action Agency, 507 1st Avenue North, Escanaba. RSVP is sponsored by the Community Action Agency & Human Resources Authority, Inc. The meeting is open to the public. If interested please call, Sarah Cantrell at (906) 786-7080, Ext. 136 on or before Tuesday, Feb. 21. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to the individuals with disabilities.

RSVP is funded by The Corporation for National and Community Service, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services/Aging and Adult Services Agency and the United Way of Delta County.

Elks Auxiliary board

meeting Feb. 27

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks Auxiliary will hold a board meeting on Monday, Feb. 27, at 5:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.

Reading Buddies needed

ESCANABA — The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Volunteers has partnered with Lemmer Elementary School as the newest location for a Reading Buddies program. RSVP volunteers are needed to spend Tuesdays with the first and second grade classes as one-on-one mentors in reading with various sessions between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Lemmer Elementary School. We are still in need of more volunteers to make this program a success. If you are interested in joining the Reading Buddies program please call Sarah Carlson, RSVP Coordinator at 906-786-7080 Ext 112.

RSVP is here to meet and serve the needs of Delta County.

Parkinson support group

KINGSFORD — The Parkinson Society of Dickinson County Area, a support group for people with Parkinson’s Disease patients, caregivers, family and friends, will hold the next meeting on Thursday, March 9 at the First Presbyterian Church, 395 Hamilton Ave., Kingsford. The social time and gathering will begin at 10 a.m., which will include time to sign-in, get a name tag, have some coffee, and meet and greet each other. The meeting will begin with exercises and agenda items. On the agenda are Parkinson Alliance Survey discussion, the symposium to be held on Sept. 22, and any other items of interest to the group. The meeting this month will be chaired by Koni Lindholm, Claire Kennedy, and Nancy Lakari.

Following the meeting, the program will be presented by Dr. Alexis Whaley, speaking on the topic of Sleep Disorders in Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Whaley is board certified in sleep disorders and is employed at DCHS and U.P. Sleep Center. A light lunch will be available after the program, compliments of Dr. Whaley.

Taco Tuesday at the

Legion Post 71

GLADSTONE –American Legion Post 71 welcomes the public to Taco Tuesday serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each week at the Gladstone Legion Hall, 802 Delta Ave. Both hard and soft tacos are available, along with nachos and nachos supreme.

Senior line dancing

GLADSTONE — Beginners’ line dancing is offered at the Gladstone Senior Center each Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. No partner is needed. The activity is free to all area seniors. Membership is not required.
