Elks Auxilary holds

dinner/meeting

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks Auxiliary will hold its monthly dinner/meeting on Thursday, Feb. 2 at the Elks Lodge. Social time will be at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. and the meeting to follow. This is the meeting for Valentine’s Day and Groundhog Day.

The “Automatic Reservations” list is in effect and other reservations/cancellations MUST be made by calling Linda at 789-6256 by noon on Monday, Jan. 30. Interested members are always welcome.

Legion state leaders

HERMANSVILLE — The Michigan American Legion State Commander, Auxiliary President and Sons of the American Legion State Commander will be making a noon luncheon stop at the Floriano-Stecker-Kelly American Legion Post 340 On Friday, Jan. 27, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. (CST). All local legion members in the readership area are invited to the free luncheon.

Sons of Union Veterans

MARQUETTE — The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, a national Fraternity granted a Charter to the Albert & James Lyon Camp 266, 21 years ago. Camp 266 is the only camp in the Upper Peninsula. There are 21 camps in Michigan.

The purpose is to perpetuate the memory of Union Civil War Veterans. They are the legal (chartered by Congress), heir to the Grand Army of the Republic, a vets organization similar to the American Legion. Anyone who is interested in the Civil War, and what impact it had on the Upper Peninsula, is welcome. The camp is very active, making presentations at schools and organizations and identifying monuments and Civil War graves for a national data base.

Membership is open to descendants of Civil War Veterans and associate members with an interest in the Civil War. The camp also seeks women with ancestors to establish a Daughters of Union Veterans of Civil War.

Meetings are bimonthly at the D.J. Jacobetti Home of Veterans, 425 Fisher St., Marquette in the first floor conference room. The meetings are open to the public. All-you-can eat

pancake breakfast

HERMANSVILLE — The Floriano-Stecker-Kelly American Legion Post 340 is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat pancake andsausage breakfast at the American Legion Hall in Hermansville on Sunday, Jan. 29, from 8 to 11 a.m. The menu includes: scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, toast, coffee, orange juice, applesauce, and sausage. The cost is $6 for adults and children six to 12 are $3. Adults over 90 and children five and younger are free.

Proceeds go towards the community, veterans, and legion activities. The public is invited.

Senior line dancing

GLADSTONE — Beginners’ line dancing is offered at the Gladstone Senior Center each Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. No partner is needed. The activity is free to all area seniors. Membership is not required.

Rock Dance Feb. 12

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd., on Sunday, Feb. 12  from 1 to 5 p.m. Enjoy the music of Ron Jay & the Country Strangers. Door cost, $5 per person. Free will donation lunch will be available. For more information, call Alice at 356-6588. All proceeds benefit our Senior Corporation.
