Former resident awarded the CHP 11-99 Commissioner’s Award
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Association of Highway Patrolmen (CAHP) Credit Union President and former resident of Michigan Brad Houle was awarded the Commissioner’s Award by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) 11-99 Foundation for 2016. The Commissioner’s Award, which is the the 11-99 Foundation’s highest annual award, is given to one person each year.
In a press release, it was stated that one of the reasons that Houle was given this award was his support of the 11-99 Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to supporting current and former CHP employees and their loved ones in times of need — a mission which gave them their name, as “11-99” is a radio code meaning “officer needs assistance.” Since it was formed in 1982, the 11-99 Foundation has given over $28 million to officers and their families and has awarded over $22 million in scholarships.
“I am honored and humbled by this award,” Houle was quoted as saying in the press release. “The CHP 11-99 Foundation has significantly impacted the lives of so many officers and their families in a positive way. I am fortunate to be part of the CHP community and serve members of the (CAHP) Credit Union.”
Under Houle’s leadership, the CAHP Credit Union provides financial education to more than 16,000 California officers. He has spent a significant amount of time volunteering in the peace officer community and has supported a wide variety of fundraising events for the 11-99 Foundation.
In addition to his role in the CAHP Credit Union and his volunteer work, Houle currently serves as treasurer for BALANCE – Consumer Credit Counseling Services of San Fransisco’s board of directors. He also sits on the American Share Insurance Advisory Council, the California Credit Union League Political Action Committee, the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation Board, and the World Council’s Global Women’s Leadership Network Committee.
Brad Houle is the son of Richard and Sheryl Houle of Hyde. He currently lives in Sacramento, Calif. with his wife Jennifer (Curran) and their daughter Hailey.
