Mathias receives Eagle Scout Award

GLADSTONE – Gavin Mathias joined Cub Scouts as a WEBLOS Scout with pack 471, and when he was old enough he joined Troop 466 in Gladstone under scoutmaster Anders Nyberg and later Jamie Siedlecki.

The Troop is chartered by the Lions club.

Gavin is now 18 and a graduate from Mid-Peninsula High School. Gavin is the son of David and Jennifer Mathias of Gladstone.

Gavin was awarded his Eagle on July 16, 2016 at All Saint’s Catholic Church of which he is a member. He earned the Good Citizenship award from the Marine Corps League. He also had to earn 21 merit badges and serve the troop in various leadership positions such as senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, and quartermaster.

Gavin was accepted into the Order of the Arrow which is the National Honor Society of Boy Scouts. In addition to all his other work he had to complete a community service project. For his project Gavin decided to make bat houses, there are 10 houses at the Gladstone Outdoor Classroom to assist in helping our local bat population. His project was funded by the Gladstone Kiwanis and built by Gavin and several of the boys from Troop 466. The bat houses were placed with the help of the City of Gladstone Electric Department.
