Ceremony to bless Lauck pipe organ
ESCANABA – The new Lauck pipe organ at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Parish will be blessed in a solemn ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m., followed by a recital by renowned concert organist Dr. Steven Ball.
A native Michigander with connections in the U.P. and formerly on the organ faculty of the University of Michigan, Dr. Ball is presently staff organist and director of outreach for the ongoing restoration of the massive 1937 Midmer-Losh organ of Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, the largest musical instrument in the world.
Among works to be heard on the program are the Sonata for Two Organs by Antonio Soler, and works with a Michigan reference. The new instrument at St. Joseph & St. Patrick’s, Phase 3 of the organ project to commemorate 150 years since the founding of the former St. Joseph Parish, was built between January and June of this year by the Lauck Organ Company of Otsego, Mich. and incorporates 500 pipes from the organ of the former St. Patrick’s Church. The event is free and the public is welcome. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
