Annual chicken barbecue set for Oct. 1

GLADSTONE- This Saturday Oct. 1 the Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis group is holding their annual chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost for tickets is $9 and include slow roasted chicken, baked potato, baked beans, cole slaw and roll. People can dine in or carry out the meal. Tickets can be purchased at Gladstone City Hall, Pat’s Foods, Darmogray Jewelers and from Kiwanis and Key Club Members.

Proceeds from the dinner will go towards the Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis, who are involved with many improvement projects around the area.

The Gladstone Kiwanis has assisted in or has been responsible for many community projects including the building and updates of Kids Kingdom, updates to the tennis and basketball courts at Pfotenhauer Park, clean up and support for the local parks, Gladstone Marsh Nature Preserve, Rose Bushes Project on the Highway, Bullen Pier, Adopt-a Highway Clean Up, Salvation Army Kettle Drive, United Way and many others.

In addition to the chicken barbecue, the Kiwanis will also be selling Sayklly’s caramel apples for $3. Speciality apples are $5. The proceeds from the apple sale will towards the purchase of iPads for Children with Autism, a project that supplies children with autism with iPads to assist in their learning.
